This elegant New Zealand pounamu pendant is based on the form or a Tā Wai (canoe bailer) and symbolises a tool to keep one afloat through life. Traditionally used to scoop water from waka (canoes), Tā Wai were elaborately carved from native wood with a forward projecting handle and a hollow centre. This intricate piece has a beautifully smooth and hollow centre which showcases the translucency and patterns of the stone. Carved by Tamaora Walker, this pendant was designed to symbolise the importance of discarding negativity and to keep moving forward through stormy waters.
