John Sheehan Snr & Margaret
John Sheehan Snr is the Founder of Mountain Jade, taking it from its humble roots with just John working in his single man workshop, to one of the leaders in handcrafted Jade carvings in New Zealand. His vision for Mountain Jade was to support local artists and create an interactive space to learn about the traditions, stone and the practice.
The Sheehan family, who still own and run Mountain Jade, is continuing to carry out this dream. John works to create designs that do two things; reference the stone’s cultural past and explore a future that’s less familiar. John's wife, Margaret Franken, has the same shared passion to carve stone and a skilled hand in producing her own contemporary pieces. Amongst her work includes adze necklaces with stunning cord detail and a small collection of beautiful one-off earring designs. It's only fitting that we celebrate the designs of these two artists, collectively in one place.
